# Can Product Upload populate the "Cost per item" field on Shopify?

Yes. Under **Pricing** on the **Product setup** tab, set **Cost per item** to **The supplier's price**. Whatever Product Upload scrapes from the supplier is written into Shopify's Cost per item field, and your **Price** rule is applied separately to work out the customer-facing price.

If you buy below the supplier's listed price, choose **A percentage below the supplier's price** instead and enter your margin in **Your discount off the supplier's price**. Shopify reports profit from this field, so it should reflect what *you* pay, not what the supplier charges shoppers.

|| For wholesale or B2B suppliers where the real cost sits behind a login, you will usually need a session cookie so the scraper can see the logged-in price. See Can I import from supplier websites that require a login?.
