# How do I write effective custom AI prompts?

The custom instructions field lets you give the AI your own rules for how it writes your listings. It applies to the **title as well as the description**, not just the tone.

**Where to find it**

* **Shopify and Wix apps:** Import options → **Content** tab → open **Advanced** at the bottom → **Extra instructions (tone, wording, rules)**
* **Web dashboard:** Settings → Products → **Custom AI instructions**

**What you can put in it**

Anything you would tell a copywriter: structure, wording rules, words to avoid, things to always include.

* `Write in British English. Never use the word "premium".`
* `Always name the material and the room it suits.`
* `Do not mention LED, dimmable or wattage unless the supplier page says so.`
* `Translate all content to French`

Long, detailed rulesets work well here, including a full house style with its own worked examples. Where your instructions and our built-in rules disagree, yours win.

**If you only want a title format**

You do not need a prompt for this. Paste two or three of your own titles instead:

* **Shopify and Wix apps:** **Content** tab → **Title** card → set it to **Rewrite** → **Add title examples to guide formatting**
* **Web dashboard:** Settings → Products → **Customize product title format**

Give it at least two examples. With only one, the AI reads the whole line as fixed text and every product can come out with that same title.

**If you want to change the description structure**

Which sections appear, their order and their headings are not set by the prompt. They come from the layout editor: **Content** tab → **Description** card → set it to **Rewrite** → open the layout editor underneath. The writing tone lives in there too.

||| Keep accuracy rules explicit. If you ban a word, say that the ban applies even when the supplier's own page uses that word, otherwise the AI may carry it across from the source page.
