How do markups and cost mapping work together?

Two settings under Pricing on the Product setup tab shape your numbers on import, and they do different jobs:

Price sets what the customer pays. Pick Multiply supplier price by, Markup on supplier price or Discount off supplier price, and put the figure in Amount.
Cost per item sets what Shopify thinks you paid. Set it to The supplier's price, or to A percentage below the supplier's price if you buy under their list price.

They are calculated independently from the same scraped supplier price, so your cost basis stays honest no matter how you price for retail.

Together you get accurate profit reporting in Shopify and a consistent retail margin across your catalog, with no manual price editing.
